Mexico started World Cup with a 2-0 win over South Africa at Estadio Azteca in game of THREE red cards. Julián Quiñones scored first in the 9th minute after a defensive mistake by South Africa. Raúl Jiménez added the second goal with a header in the 67th minute.

South Africa lost Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane, while Mexico’s César Montes was also sent off late in the game. The win gives Mexico claimed first three points in Group A.
